Claude Twitter Guide: Write and Post to X With Claude
Short answer: on its own, Claude can write and edit your Twitter (X) posts, but it can’t see what’s happening on X or post anything. Connect an MCP tool and it can do both: read what your niche is engaging with, check your drafts, and schedule the posts you approve, all without leaving the chat.
This guide covers both: how to get good posts out of Claude by itself, and what changes when you connect it to X.
What can Claude do for Twitter by itself?
| Claude can | Claude can’t (without a connector) |
|---|---|
| Write posts, threads and replies in your voice | See today’s top posts or trends on X |
| Rewrite a draft shorter, sharper or in a new format | Know which of your posts performed best |
| Generate hooks and post ideas | Schedule or publish anything |
| Turn a blog post, changelog or note into posts | Check your open time slots |
The left column is already useful. The right column is why Claude-written posts often read well and still land flat: Claude is writing from what it learned during training, not from what your niche is reacting to this week.
How do you get better posts from Claude?
Most generic AI tweets come from generic prompts. Give Claude three things.
1. Who you are and who you’re writing for.
I’m a solo founder building a time-tracking app for freelancers. My audience is freelancers and indie hackers on X.
2. Examples of your best posts. Paste 5 to 10 of your own posts that did well. This does more for your voice than any style description.
3. Rules for X. Keep posts under 280 characters, one idea per post, no hashtags, no emoji unless you use them, no link in the main post.
Then ask for a mix of formats:
Using the context above, write 10 X posts for this week:
- 3 practical tips from my experience
- 2 posts with a specific number or result
- 2 short opinions my audience might disagree with
- 2 behind-the-scenes posts about what I'm building
- 1 post about my product, with the link saved for a first reply
For each, give 3 possible first lines and pick the strongest.

What is still manual?
Even with a great prompt, every week you still:
- scroll your niche to see what’s working, so Claude has fresh context;
- look up which of your posts did best last week;
- copy each draft into a scheduler, pick a time, and add the link reply.
That’s the part an MCP connector removes.
How do you let Claude post to Twitter?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard Claude uses to work with outside tools. Once a Twitter/X MCP server is connected, Claude calls it on its own when you ask for posts, the same way it searches the web or reads a file. What an X MCP server does.
With Kalen connected, a week looks like this:
- You type: “Plan my X posts for next week with Kalen.”
- Kalen gives Claude a briefing: today’s top posts for your niche’s keywords, X trends, and your own best-performing posts. He also gives your open time slots.
- Claude writes the drafts from that briefing.
- Kalen scores each draft from 0 to 100 against what works in your niche and your best posts. Weak drafts go back to Claude for up to three rewrites.
- You review and say “Schedule them.” Kalen publishes each post through the official X API at its time, with an optional first reply for your link.
Nothing is scheduled until you approve it, and you can edit or cancel any post until it goes out.
How do you set it up?
Kalen works in Claude.ai, the Claude desktop and mobile apps, and Claude Code:
- Claude.ai and the apps: add Kalen as a custom connector and sign in with your Kalen account.
- Claude Code: add Kalen as an MCP server with one command. See Post to X From Claude Code.
Then connect your X account and set your niche profile in Kalen. Step by step: Connect Kalen to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor.
Kalen also works in ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code, so you can switch AIs without changing your setup.
What can’t Kalen post?
X limits what any tool can do through its API. Through Kalen you can’t post tweets that @mention other accounts, use more than one cashtag in a post, schedule more than 3 weeks ahead, or schedule trend-reacting posts more than 48 hours out.
How much does Kalen cost?
Kalen runs no writing model. Claude writes on the plan you already have. Kalen runs on credits: a post costs 1, a post with a first reply or a link costs 2. Starter is $9 a month (100 credits), Pro $29 (700) and Ultra $49 (1,500), with daily niche research and scoring included and a 14-day free trial with 50 credits. There’s no free plan because X charges for every post published through its API.
FAQ
Can Claude post tweets?
Not on its own. With an X MCP connector like Kalen, Claude can schedule and publish posts to X after you approve them.
Is Claude good at writing tweets?
Yes, if you give it context: your audience, your best posts and rules for X. Without that, its posts tend to sound like everyone else’s AI posts.
Does Claude work with Twitter’s API?
Not directly. An MCP server sits between them: Claude talks to the MCP server, and the server posts through the official X API.
Is Claude or ChatGPT better for Twitter?
Both write good posts with good context. Kalen works with both, so you can use whichever you already pay for.
