How to Schedule Tweets on X: 3 Ways That Work in 2026

Kalen · · 6 min read

there are three ways to schedule tweets on X. Use the schedule (calendar) icon in X’s desktop web composer for one post at a time. Use a Twitter scheduler app to fill a queue for the week. Or connect a scheduler to the AI you already use, like Claude or ChatGPT, and write and schedule a week of posts in one chat.

Below are the steps for each way, what each one costs, and which one fits which kind of poster.

Why posting on X every day is hard

Writing a good post is only half the job. The other half is being there at the right time.

Your ideas show up late at night. Your audience reads in the morning. You open the app to post one thing and lose forty minutes in the feed. Some days you post three times, then nothing for a week.

Scheduling fixes the timing problem. You write when you have the energy, and the posts go out when your audience is awake. See the best time to post on X and how often to post.

Option 1: Schedule a tweet in X’s web composer

X has a built-in scheduler. It lives in the composer on the desktop website.

  1. Go to https://x.com in a desktop browser and sign in.
  2. Click Post to open the composer and write your post.
  3. Click the Schedule icon (the calendar) under the text box.
  4. Pick the date and time, then click Confirm.
  5. Click Schedule.

To see or edit what you scheduled, open the composer, click Unsent posts, then the Scheduled tab.

Good for: the odd post you want out at a set time.
Limits: one post at a time, on desktop web. It doesn’t help you decide what to post or when your niche is most active.

Option 2: Use a Twitter scheduler app

A Twitter scheduler (now an X scheduler) is a separate app that holds a queue of posts and publishes them for you. Buffer, Typefully and Hypefury are common examples.

Most of them work the same way:

  1. Create an account and connect your X profile.
  2. Set your posting slots, for example 9am, 1pm and 6pm.
  3. Write your posts into the queue, or paste drafts in.
  4. The app publishes each post when its slot comes up.

Good for: teams, people who post to several networks, and anyone who wants a calendar view.
Limits: you still come up with and write every post yourself, in another tab.

Option 3: Schedule tweets from Claude or ChatGPT

If you already write with an AI, you can skip the separate app. A connector (an MCP server for X) lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude Code act on X for you.

This is what Kalen does. He is an X assistant that lives inside the AI you already use. The flow looks like this:

  1. Add Kalen as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude Code (setup steps).
  2. Tell him your niche and the accounts you look up to.
  3. Ask your AI: “Write my X posts for this week.”
  4. Kalen hands your AI a briefing on what is working in your niche today, plus your open time slots.
  5. Your AI writes the drafts. Kalen scores each one from 0 to 100 against your niche and your own best posts, with up to 3 rewrite rounds.
  6. You approve in the chat. Kalen schedules each post through the official X API, with an optional first reply that carries your link.

You can schedule up to 21 days ahead, or post right away. Posts about something happening right now go out within 48 hours.

Good for: creators and founders who post every day and already work in Claude or ChatGPT.
Limits: X only, and no free plan, only a 14-day free trial (see costs below).

What scheduling tweets costs now

Since X moved its API to pay-per-use, every post an app publishes for you has a price (X API pricing per post). According to X’s developer docs:

  • A regular post costs $0.015.
  • A post with a URL costs $0.20 (since April 2026).

That is why many schedulers now limit link posts, and why a common pattern is to keep the link out of the main post and put it in the first reply on your own post. Replies to your own posts are allowed through the API, and Kalen always puts your link there.

Posting by hand from X’s own composer costs nothing extra.

Which way should you pick?

X web composer Scheduler app Scheduler inside your AI
Posts at a time One A queue A week of posts in one chat
Writes posts for you No Some have AI add-ons Your AI writes, the tool scores
Niche research No No Yes, daily
Best for Occasional posts Teams, multiple networks Daily posting from Claude or ChatGPT

5 tips for scheduling tweets well

  1. Mix evergreen and timely posts. Schedule your evergreen posts weeks ahead, and leave room for posts about what is happening this week.
  2. Count weighted characters. X allows 280 weighted characters, and every URL counts as 23, however long it is.
  3. Don’t schedule @mentions. X restricts automated mentions of other accounts, so tag people when you post by hand.
  4. Check your queue when big news breaks. A cheerful post scheduled into a bad news day reads badly.
  5. Write in batches. One focused hour of writing beats ten interrupted minutes a day.

FAQ

Can you schedule tweets on the X mobile app?

The scheduling option is in the desktop web composer. On a phone, use a scheduler app or a connector in your AI’s mobile app.

Is there a free Twitter scheduler?

X’s own web composer is free. Most scheduler apps have a limited free tier. Kalen has no free plan because X charges per post published through its API, but every plan starts with a 14-day free trial and 50 credits.

Can ChatGPT or Claude schedule tweets?

Not on their own. With a connector like Kalen installed, they can write the posts and Kalen schedules them after you approve.

How far ahead can I schedule tweets?

It depends on the tool. With Kalen, up to 21 days ahead.

Do scheduled tweets get less reach?

X hasn’t said it treats scheduled posts differently. What matters more is what you post and when your audience is online.

Schedule a week of X posts from the chat you already use

If you write in Claude or ChatGPT anyway, the shortest path is to schedule from there. Kalen researches your niche every day, scores every draft before it goes out, and only posts what you approve.

Plans run on credits: a post costs 1, a post with a first reply or a link costs 2, and unused credits last 3 months. Starter is $9/month (100 credits), Pro $29/month (700) and Ultra $49/month (1,500), each with a 14-day free trial. See pricing.
