Twitter Assistant: What an AI Assistant for X Can Do

Kalen · · 6 min read

Short answer: a Twitter assistant is a tool, usually AI-powered, that takes part of the daily work of posting on X off your hands. A good one can help with four jobs: writing posts, researching what works in your niche, scheduling and publishing, and reading how your posts did. No assistant should reply, follow, DM or @mention people for you, because X restricts apps that automate those actions. A setup that works pairs the AI chat you already write in with a tool that knows X.

What can a Twitter assistant do?

Break the work of posting on X into jobs and it gets clear what an assistant can take over.

Job What an assistant can do What stays with you
Write Draft posts, hooks and threads from your notes and best posts Your facts, your opinions, the final edit
Research Find the top posts and trends in your niche each day Deciding what you have something to say about
Score Flag weak drafts before they go out The call on what sounds like you
Schedule Spread posts across good slots and publish them Approving the plan
Analyze Show which of your posts did best and why Choosing what to change
Engage Nothing automated Replies, follows, DMs, conversations

The first five are safe to hand off. The last one is where your account and your reputation live, so keep it human.

What can’t an AI social media assistant do?

Three limits are worth knowing before you pick one.

It can’t know your facts. An AI writes from the average of what it has read. Without your numbers, stories and opinions it fills gaps with generic lines, or worse, invented ones. Give it your material and check every claim.

It shouldn’t engage for you. X’s developer rules restrict apps from replying to people who didn’t summon them and from @mentioning accounts that aren’t already in the conversation. Auto-likes, auto-follows and reply bots also run into X’s rules on platform manipulation. A tool that promises growth through automated engagement puts your account at risk. More on that in what an AI Twitter growth tool should never do and in Twitter automation rules.

It can’t guarantee reach. No assistant controls the X algorithm. It can help you post better posts more often. That’s the part that compounds.

What types of Twitter assistants are there?

Most tools fall into one of four groups. We cover the full landscape in 5 kinds of Twitter AI tools.

  1. Chat assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok). Strong writers. On their own they can’t post to your account or see your niche’s week on X; Grok can search X but isn’t built to plan and publish your posts. See writing X posts with ChatGPT and Claude.
  2. AI tweet generators. Fast drafts from a topic, but they rarely know your voice. The types compared.
  3. Schedulers with AI writing. A queue plus rewrite features. You still decide what to post each day.
  4. Assistants inside your AI through MCP. MCP lets Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor use outside tools, so the chat you already write in can also read X data and schedule posts. What an X MCP server does.

Which Twitter assistant should you use?

Start from where your time goes:

  • You struggle to know what to post: you need research, not another writer.
  • Your drafts sound generic: feed your AI your best posts and score drafts before posting.
  • You keep missing days: you need scheduling in batches.
  • You want numbers on your posts: look at Twitter analytics tools.
  • You post a few times a week and enjoy it: X’s own scheduler is enough. Skip the assistant.

How do you set up an AI assistant for X?

  1. Pick the AI you already use for writing, so you aren’t learning a new editor.
  2. Give it context once: your niche, who you write for, your tone and ten of your best posts.
  3. Connect it to X data and scheduling, through an MCP tool or a scheduler.
  4. Plan a week at a time and keep a slot or two a day for what happens in your niche.
  5. Approve every post before it goes out.
  6. Do your own replies each day.

Where does Kalen fit?

Kalen is a Twitter assistant that lives inside your AI. He connects through MCP to Claude (claude.ai, desktop, mobile and Claude Code), ChatGPT as a custom connector, Cursor or VS Code, and any AI with remote MCP. See how to connect Kalen.

He runs no writing model. Your AI writes, and Kalen brings the rest, so the research, the check and the posting happen in the chat you already use instead of three other tabs:

  • Research: every day the top posts for your keywords and X trends; once a week the most popular posts of your reference accounts and your own.
  • A plan: a briefing and your open slots, by default about 40 posts a week, mostly evergreen plus a daily moment post on the day’s trends.
  • Scoring: each draft scored from 0 to 100 against your niche and your best posts, with up to three rewrites. A weak post is shown as weak, never hidden.
  • Publishing: nothing goes out until you say yes in the chat. Then he publishes through the official X API, up to three weeks ahead or right now, with media and an optional first reply for your link.

What he doesn’t do: other networks, an analytics dashboard, DMs, replies to others, follows or @mentions. If you use Claude, here is the Claude Twitter guide.

Kalen runs on credits: a post costs 1, or 2 with a first reply or a link. Starter is $9 a month (100 credits), Pro $29 (700) and Ultra $49 (1,500). Every plan starts with 14 days free and 50 credits; cancel before the trial ends and nothing is charged. There’s no free plan that posts, because X charges for every post published through its API. FAQ

What is the best AI assistant for Twitter?

The one that fits where your time goes. For writing, the AI you already use. For research and scheduling around it, a tool connected to X. For engagement, no tool: do it yourself.

Can an AI assistant reply to people on X for me?

It shouldn’t. X restricts apps from replying to people who didn’t summon them, and automated replies can get an account limited.

Is Grok a Twitter assistant?

Grok is X’s built-in AI. It can answer questions and summarize what people say on X, but it isn’t built to plan, score and schedule your posts.

Is it against X’s rules to use an AI assistant?

Writing posts with AI and scheduling them through the official X API is allowed. Automating engagement, like follows, likes, mass replies or mentions, is what X’s rules restrict.
